ANC IN KZN DOFF ITS HAT FOR GOVERNMENT ON DECISION OF O% INCREASE FEE FOR UNIVERSITIES
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the announcement by the President of the Republic Jacob Zuma of a 0% increase.
ANC Provincial Secretary Sihle Zikalala said the announcement is a right step in the right direction. “More importantly, this will assist in ensuring that the majority of young people have access to higher quality education. In addition, we commend thousands of young people who marched throughout the streets of Durban to the ANC office to hand over a memorandum. We want to assure them that we will ensure that all the issues that have been raised in the memorandum are addressed by the ANC led government. We appreciate the move by the president in dealing with the issue of education fees,” said Zikalala.
KwaZulu-Natal Province plays host to thousands of young people from different parts of the country including neighboring countries. “Therefore, government and tertiary institutions must forge closer links to ensure that challenges faced by students are addressed speedily. This is critically important because it is only through education that we can drive socio-economic development in the SADC region. Critically, the transformation of institutions of higher education must be speeded up. In this regard, management must work with student leaders to ensure that this matter remains on top of the agenda.”
