Conference
The Easy Eating Taste Experience is a season of four delicious innovative pop-up
culinary / sensory / educational events which are scheduled to take place
between 30 October and 20 November culminating in a food conference on 5
December, all taking place at 8 Morrison Street in Durban.
Start with one funky,
creative food-loving visionary, add a handful of home grown, high quality
produce, a cup of freshly blended tea (or coffee), a pint of locally brewed
craft beer, and an independently produced cooking show. Mix thoroughly and
simmer. What’s the final product, you ask? Easy
Eating: the master project of culinary mover and shaker, Zama Memela. Four
delicious pop-up events will take place between 30 October and 20 November which
culminates in a 10 course culinary showcase on 5 December. All this will be
happening at the very “happening” 8 Morrison Street in Durban.
The series kicks off on 30
October with Durban local, David Bartlett from Eat Your Home. David will share
his company vision and his passion for quality, locally-grown fresh produce and
products with guests, who will enjoy a sumptuous dinner created by Chef Brett
Gentles of Parc Cafe. He will make use of produce all sourced or inspired by
Eat Your Home. “The unpretentious setting at Parc Café belies its
serious foodie roots. Brett Gentles, who owns it with sister Lara, is a qualified
chef and, prior to opening Parc, worked as sous chef at 9th Avenue.
His approach has been billed as: clever café food that plays with textures and
fresh flavours. According to Bartlett ingredients as fresh as these don’t need
much help. Fresh ingredients end up doing most of the work. David will also be showcasing some
sprouting methods, with the help of Angela Fenn of Angela’s Backyard Garden, so
folks can get started on home grown living, DIY style.
Nothing beats a perfectly
brewed cup of tea. What about the heavenly smell of freshly ground coffee
beans? On 6 November String: master tea blender and coffee roaster
extraordinaire, Zamindlela Mkhwanazi, will be examining methods of creating the
perfect cup of tea. Learn to be a master tea blender at this event, where
guests will be given the opportunity to create their own tea blends from
scratch. Learn from the best so you can enjoy the perfect cuppa anytime, anywhere.
An extravagant meal will be served and all food and beverage on the night will
be tea or coffee-inspired.
Another Durbanite, Nazira
Moosa, will entertain and educate guests on 13 November with her very own
independently produced cooking show, Zira Cooks. Zira was once a member of the corporate
world, but her passion for cooking and entertaining took over. She decided to
leave the corporate world behind, and follow her dreams full time. She will be
showing guests how to create a dish in her live show, and will be cooking
enough for all to enjoy. Zira is at her happiest when she is entertaining
people, so if you want to make someone happy on 13 November, this is the place
to be.
